Garden Moths and Books

I put out the moth trap last weekend - and trapped the following - all New For the Year

Oak Beauty (Biston strataria) - one of my favourite moths

Clouded Drab (Orthosia incerta)

Chestnut (Conistra vaccinii)

As always if any of my id's are incorrect please let me know. Overnight temperatures are forecast to be milder this weekend so will hopefully be trapping again.

Garden Birds

A pair of Blue Tits are taking nesting material into the nestbox (which has a camera) and a Collared Dove visited the garden (a new species for the year).

Frog spawning activity went on for days - a good year for frogspawn :)

A Spring posy of flowers picked from the garden for Easter Sunday

Books (for Amanda)

I picked up a couple of book bargains at the Nurseries when I went looking for birthday presents for my friend last week.

The AA Book "Exploring Britain's Churches and Chapels" was greatly reduced to £6.99! In fact, I saw it at the same price yesterday in a National Trust shop. It features various churches region by region and has articles on features such as towers and spires. It's well worth buying if you are interested in churches.

This charming bee book was half price!

Will try and resist sneaky book purchases for a while and catch up on some of the books in my vast pile of "waiting to be read"!

  1. Hope it warms up soon, is it a slow start to the mothing year ? The Oak Beauty is a lovely moth to get. Loving the books, church book sounds interesting, you must try and visit a few from the book. On one blog they had bought a calendar of their area , say "Yorkshire" and for each month would go to were the photo was taken, and try and take the same photo.. She got to visit places she might not of gone to.. what a good Idea !

    1. Thanks for the comment Amanda. It is actually milder here tonight though overall seems cold for time of year. I always find I get a slow start to the mothing year compared to many others. I only seems to get loads and loads in the summer especially when it is hot and humid.

I love the idea of visiting areas in a calendar - perhaps we could try it next year - we will have to remind each other!!

Would love to go to more churches - problem is family don't enjoy them :( There are so many superb ones in S Warks, Oxfordshire and especially Gloucestershire. Will try and visit more this year (somehow!) though. Again I wish you lived closer!!

  4. It is good to see the moths again. The churches and chapels book does look interesting, and I'll definitely look up the bee book!

    1. Thanks Wendy. The bee book is full of interest - if you have nurseries round by you that sell books it might be worth looking in their "sales" section.
